What a difference a new pair of lungs makes! Eighteen years ago I took Brooke on a tour of the Eastern Shore of MD and she was happy to snack on some icy cold watermelon on the beach, a break from the confines of her bed at Johns Hopkins, Nelson 4, with the other CF kids. Today, three years post transplant, she is a vibrant newlywed--well, almost a year now--with a home to run, a husband to care for and who dotes on her, and two part time jobs revolving FOOD.
I took Mom to MD and enjoyed a weekend of being a tourist, eating as much seafood as we could in little, off the grid spots that only locals know about. It was glorious "found time" after the sudden cancellation of a program that had me en route to South Carolina and we made the most of our time in St. Mary's County--sans sister Mary, that is, who was off to New York on family reunion bidness.
Soft shell crab sandwich at Courtney's and scallops and oysters at The Ruddy Duck South. Amazing! But best of all was the dish that Sean cooked for us on Saturday night, a variation of the legendary mussels fromage bleu created by Granville Moore's Chef Teddy Folkman that crushed Bobby Flay in a Throwdown back in 2008.
These kids are living the life!
