I remember that symposium so well and still have my own copy of Flower Cookery...and that the author was the wife of Howard K Smith the local Philly newscaster, I think!
I just wish I had collected all those violets growing here in my Maryland garden about 2 weeks ago. Definitely I'm inspired for next year! Thanks so much, Anne!
"Morels are insistent and manly; their conical emergence lights a fire in some, breeding competition. This year, I’m focusing on the feminine side of a spring ephemeral—violets. Gentle flowers, demure; even their name is a soft sigh." Poetic prose with a tinge of raucous snark.
Someone recently gifted me a jar of this precious jellified juice. And I cannot wait to enjoy it in a nice cup of hot Makaibari estate Darjeeling with a splash of Drumshanbo gin!
What a treasure trove of information- the pictures alone!!! 💟💟💟💟
Yum! Kirk and Iris would love to make this. We will watch for violets this spring - they bloom in jordan canyon.

Very creative application!
Yes--they would be very good at gathering and the violets are so much easier to find than morels!
Lovely use of violets! Definitely feminine.
